Three Organizations All Hypnotists Should Join
Cal Banyan, MA, BCH, CI, FNGH, OBC
As hypnotists we all want to be able to continue to grow and learn, as well as be free to continue to use hypnosis to help others. Today I want to encourage all hypnotists to join three organizations, listed below:
National Guild of Hypnotists
The National Federation of Hypnotists (Hypnotists Union)
National Health Freedom Coalition
These three organizations are doing more for our profession than any other organizations. Becoming a member in these organizations would be among the wisest choices that you could make.
The National Guild of Hypnotists
Yes, there are other organizations, but this is the main one, the biggest and friendliest hypnosis organization on the planet. No one does more to watch out for you to protect your interests as a professional hypnotist than the National Guild of Hypnotists! And, no one has ever done more to provide education to those who wish to become a part of our profession, or to continue to educate themselves in our fascinating area of expertise, hypnosis.
Here is a bit of what they say about themselves on their website:
The National Guild of Hypnotists, Inc. is a not-for-profit, educational corporation in the State of New Hampshire. Founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1951 the Guild is a professional organization comprised of dedicated individuals committed to advancing the field of hypnotism. We provide an open forum for the free exchange of ideas concerning hypnotism. The Guild is a resource for members and a vehicle for legal and legislative action.
We were established in 1951 by an enthusiastic group of hypnotists and Dr. Rexford L. North, Director of the Hypnotism Center of Boston, MA. Within a short time, local chapters were formed and operating in many major cities throughout the US and Canada. Important resources through the years have been The Journal of Hypnotism and The Hypno-Gram, the very first publications devoted exclusively to the field of hypnotism.
This unique organization continues to encourage an eclectic exchange of ideas, fellowship, mutual trust and cooperation among members - while promoting and protecting the art, science and philosophy of hypnotism. As President and Executive Director, Dr. Dwight F. Damon has made it his mission to do everything possible to have our field recognized as a separate and distinct profession. The Guild has always assisted wherever needed, helping other groups and individuals in various states regardless of their affiliations.
To learn more about this organization go to, www.ngh.net, and learn about the many other benefits including a world-class hypnosis journal, the Journal of Hypnotism.
The National Federation of Hypnotists (Hypnotists Union)
The main purpose of the Hypnotist's union is to protect your ability to continue providing hypnosis services to the public. They know how to work with state governments so that they can block laws that limit your ability to practice your profession, and to help write friendly legislation.
Here is what they say on their Web page:
The National Federation of Hypnotists OPEIU-AFL-CIO is an independent organization that functions as the political affiliate of the National Guild of Hypnotists. It is chartered as Local 104 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) of the AFL-CIO and CLC, the union that represents physicians, nurses, chiropractors, podiatrists, acupuncturists, midwives and other health care workers. OPEIU has represented hypnotists since 1980. Affiliation with the AFL-CIO gives hypnotists access to the political and legislative apparatus of the AFL-CIO at every level of State and Federal Government.
The Federation, or NFH 104 for short, has a national jurisdiction with members throughout the United States, Canada and England. NFH 104 has done more to protect the rights of hypnotists to practice that all of the other hypnotist organizations combined. Any hypnotist may join NFH 104 provided that you support the standards recommended for the practice of hypnosis and have a minimum of 100 hours of training in hypnosis.
NFH 104 maintains an exhaustive database of legislation, maintains a national legislation watch regarding laws that might effect the right of hypnotists to practice, and has a good record of success intervening in specific states to protect the rights of individual practitioners who are under media or political attack.
To learn more about this organization read about it on the NGH website at, https://www.ngh.net/hypnosis/legislation1.html.
National Health Freedom Coalition
Although this is not a hypnosis organization, many hypnotists are practicing freely in their states because of the hypnosis friendly laws that this group has written and passed. I know that this is the case for us who are working in Minnesota, and it is also true for at least 4 other states, with other states working on getting such legislation pasted. For more information about the NHFC go to, https://www.nationalhealthfreedom.org. By the way the NGH and Hypnotists Union agree with me on this, because they both donated $1,000.00 each this last year to the organization!
I hope I have been informative and stirred some interest with this message. As they say, "A stitch in time," and "An ounce of prevention," and so on. I believe that it is imperative that everyone who is interested in advancing the hypnosis profession become current members of these organizations. Don't wait until you have found that our profession has come under attack! Let's be proactive, and join these three organizations, so that they can continue to keep our rights and interests in mind and ensure our right to continue to help others using the gift of hypnosis.
